On Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th March we held our Big Help Out weekend at 1st Cippenham.

Leaders from across the sections came together, with some of the eldest Scouts and their families to clean, paint, weed, repair, declutter and revamp our Hut and Grounds!

The event aimed to freshen up aspects of our Hut and make the place more accessible, welcoming and bright, as well as tackling some major problems, such as the overgrown back and side. But more than that, it also encouraged a sense of community amongst the 30 or so volunteers who gave up parts/all of their weekend to help us with this mammoth task.

Some key highlights of the weekend were:

  • Sanding and revarnishing the lockers
  • Repainting the outside wall
  • Installing new (bigger) notice boards inside, so we can display even more about the activities that we regularly do
  • Retaping the octagon on the floor
  • Working on the 1st Cippenham sign to restore it to how it looked 60 years ago

But it doesn’t just stop there. See if you can notice any of the other changes we’ve made the next time you’re in the hut!

Thanks to all the volunteers for their hard work and dedication, making the Scout hut a better place for everyone.
